This course discusses typical ethical dilemmas frequently encountered by the insurance professional. We will discuss the following topics: • The Definition of Ethics • Illegal vs Unethical • Right vs Wrong • Texas Insurance Code • Prohibited Activities
By attending this course you will gain an understanding of the process of structural drying and how the proper documentation of a project can simplify the communications between the customer, the restoration company and the claims professional.
The application of the “science of drying” will be contrasted with what is considered to be an obsolete approach to structural drying, which is sometimes characterized as “mitigate and bill”.
The knowledge of the difference between the two approaches will enable a claims professional to determine whether the damage has been properly mitigated as well as whether the cost of the mitigation services is fair and reasonable. This enables claims professional to accurately compare restoration service providers’ charges by validating them based upon the IICRC S-500 standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities provided through attendance of this course: When a policyholder files a claim due to sustaining fire or water damage to their home’s structure, it is sometimes impossible to mitigate the damage due to an exorbitant amount of contents, an excessive number of pets, or pests prohibiting access to the affected areas. It may also create hazardous working conditions for the restoration workers and other occupants. This course will provide the insurance professional with a better understanding of the insured’s emotional condition in the event the contents must be removed from the premises for the mitigation to proceed. The insurance professional should expect the time required to inventory and pack the contents will be far greater than would be expected for a typical pack out. The insurance professional should be prepared to assist the insured in understanding the policy limitations in terms of Alternate Living Expense, the limitations and restrictions on temporary boarding services for pets, and the limitations on coverage for post- mitigation cleaning services.
